So tonight I am going to a book store where Audrey Niffenegger is doing a reading and book signing and now I just found out Elizabeth Gilbert is going to be in Pasadena on FRIDAY! (it’s the 2nd time I get to meet her) I am reading her new book Committed right now. Guess I better hurry up and read the last 100 pages! I get to see my 2 favorite authors in the next 2 days! I AM FREAKING OUT.
Little Bee by Chris Cleave is the book selection for the Santa Monica Citywide Reads 2010. You can pick up a FREE copy of the book at the Santa Monica Public Library. I got mine today! Get one before they’re gone. The author will be doing a reading and book signing Feb 20.
We sat next to each other on a flight from LA to Detroit. I wasn’t originally supposed to be on that flight, I was supposed to fly out 2 days later but since Mammaw was dying I left earlier. When I got to the airport I switched my seat from a window towards the back to a middle seat closer to the front. I sat down in my seat and a girl comes up who I think is going to sit in the window next to me but ends up in the window the row behind which ends up being wrong, she was supposed to sit next to me. Then Mike shows up and tells the girl that she was in his seat but not to worry about it that he’ll just sit in her’s. So neither one of us were in our original seats and I wasn’t on my original plane which seems quite serendipitous to me. We didn’t even talk to each other till the last 30 min on the plane. (The only thing he said to me during the flight was that I could have the arm rest cause he knows how much it sucks sitting in the middle.) We exchanged numbers and then I had to run off of the plane because I had 5 min to get to my next flight. He told me to call him if I missed my flight and he would take me to the bar. He also said Detroit isn’t a bad place to spend Christmas (that’s where he’s from, but he lives in LA). We were going to meet up after he got back on the 2nd but since Mammaw died I ended up being home for 3 weeks. The week I got back he was so busy with work and was working late hours. We’ve kept in touch over the last 5 weeks, which I can’t believe he’s still around since we only talked for a half an hour. The only thing that SUCKS is that he travels a lot for work and is gone for long periods of time. He’s supposed to leave around the first week of Feb till the end of July. Yes, I said JULY. So if I really like this guy, he’s just gana be gone before I know it. Figures. Tonight he is taking me out to dinner. I’m excited/nervous to be finally going out on a date with someone that could be an actual possibility.
“Kat! Merry Christmas. I hope you get everything you hoped for. Does Santa deliver boys? Thanks for the amazing bag! It’s beautiful. Wishing you all the best in 2010! (heart) Katherine”—my christmas card from my friend Katherine in Baltimore that just made me laugh out loud. (and yes, katherine, he DOES deliver boys!!!)
Lost two important women in my life: Great Grandma Lois and Mammaw. I created all of my thesis work. Had my thesis show. Graduated from grad school. Was a nanny. Moved from Baltimore to California. Lost a best friend. Lost a lot of friends. Reconnected with a couple of friends. Made a new amazing friend. Continued to fail in the relationship department. Found my foster family. Got cortisone shots in both of my wrists and hand. Read a lot of books.
